If you have a question that isn’t addressed here, please post it in the EVO APAC thread on the OzHadou forums.

Q: Who can enter tournaments at EVO APAC?

A: All tournaments at EVO APAC are open entry i.e. anyone who registers online before the closing date can enter.

The only exception to this is the SSF4 – APAC Finals. Players must earn the right to enter this tournament by qualifying via the SSF4 – Last Chance Qualifier bracket at EVO APAC, or via any of the OH APAC tournaments for SSF4. Note that all of these qualifying options are still open to anyone who wishes to compete.

Q: Is SSF4 the only tournament game?

A: No. While SSF4 is the only game awarding a flight to Las Vegas for EVO 2010, there will also be official tournaments for Tekken 6 and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars.

While this line-up is smaller than that of OHN or EVO, players are still welcome to run their own side tournaments in the BYO console area at EVO APAC.

Q: Will there be a live stream over the internet for any of EVO APAC?

A: We’re doing our best to secure a live stream for the SSF4 – APAC Finals, but nothing is guaranteed due to limited internet access within the Gallery at UTS. The safest way to make sure you see the SSF4 – APAC Finals live is to come to EVO APAC.

Spectators can get in for a discounted rate, and do not have to register online. There’s nothing like being there, so come along if you can!

Q: Are there any other prizes up for grabs?

A: Yes. In addition to the trip to Las Vegas for 1st place in SSF4, 2nd and 3rd will receive some form of prize. The Tekken 6, TvC and SSF4 Team tournaments will feature cash prizes for top players, and winners of all tournaments at EVO APAC will receive trophies/medals as well.

Details of prizes will be provided as they become available.

Q: What does the Las Vegas flight prize include?

A: The flight to Las Vegas is a paid return flight between the winner’s most convenient international airport and Las Vegas, USA. (E.g. if the winner is from Melbourne, it would be a return flight out of Melbourne, not Sydney.) The winner will also receive a rank-seed in SSF4 at EVO 2010, and their EVO 2010 entry fees for SSF4 will be covered.

The prize does not include accommodation, meals or any other extras. The dates for the flight will be negotiated with the player, but they must at least include the period of 9th-11th July (i.e. when EVO 2010 will take place).

Q: Why is this at UTS?

A: EVO APAC is being financially supported by the UTS Union, via OzHadou’s ongoing associated with the Electronic Gamers’ Guild (EGG) – a registered Union club at UTS. OzHadou co-owns a range of video game equipment with EGG, and the Union financially subsidises any events we hold on campus. This combines to generate significant savings which we are able to pass on to the attendees.

Compared to similar conventions held in capital cities around Australia, entry into EVO APAC is very affordable, especially if you register early!

Q: Where can I stay while I’m in Sydney?

A: Some recommended cheap accommodation is provided under Tournament Information. EVO APAC has no deals with any specific establishment, but there are plenty to choose from in the Sydney CBD and surrounding area. You should also consider using the OzHadou forums to make plans for sharing accommodation with other EVO APAC attendees, if required.

Q: What is the difference between EVO APAC and OH APAC?

A: The OH APAC qualifier tournament series is a collection of tournaments for Super Street Fighter IV, held in various locations throughout the Asia-Pacific region. In addition to any prizes on offer, the winners from each OH APAC will receive spots in the Super Street Fighter IV – APAC Finals tournament at EVO APAC.

EVO APAC is a two-day EVO-branded tournament, being held in Sydney in 2010. The event has a “last chance qualifier” tournament for Super Street Fighter IV on Sat 29th of May, with the top 8 players making it through to the Super Street Fighter IV – APAC Finals on Sun 30th of May. The finals will include EVO APAC last chance qualifier winners and the OH APAC winners.

The winner of the Super Street Fighter IV – APAC Finals on Sun 30th of May will receive a paid flight to Las Vegas, USA to compete at EVO 2010, where they will receive a ranked seeding in the first round of the Super Street Fighter IV tournament.

The flowchart below explains the relationship between OH APAC, EVO APAC and EVO 2010.

Q: If I qualify for SSF4 – APAC Finals via an OH APAC tournament, do I need to come to EVO APAC on Saturday?

A: No, you don’t have to come to EVO APAC on Saturday in this case. However there will be casual play available for SSF4 all day on Saturday, so it’ll be worth your while to drop by for some games if you want to practice before the main event on Sunday.

Q: How many times can I qualify for SSF4 – APAC Finals?

A: You can only qualify for SSF4 – APAC Finals once. This means you will not be allowed to enter an SSF4 tournament which has spots for SSF4 – APAC Finals up for grabs.

In the event that this rule is not properly observed for some reason, the spot will be offered to the next highest non-qualified player in that tournament.

Q: How big will the SSF4 – APAC Finals bracket be?

A: Combining the top 8 from the Last Chance tournament with the expected 13 OH APAC qualifying players, the size of SSF4 – APAC Finals should be 21 players. This will be seeded just like any double elimination bracket, with byes distributed evenly throughout.

Q: Could the rules for SSF4 at an OH APAC be different to those at EVO APAC?

A: Yes they could, though OH APAC organisers are being advised to make them as similar as possible.

Note that if the rules need to be changed due to bugs/glitches found during the month of May, then this will be done as necessary, even if it means a player has qualified by exploiting something that is no longer allowed at EVO APAC and/or EVO 2010.

Q: Can players BYO controllers for the tournmanets? Can buttons be mapped to any of the options available in the game’s menu (e.g. 3P, LP+LK, etc)?

A: Yes to both, provided they adhere to the EVO APAC tournament rules.

Q: Can I use a controller with a banned feature (e.g. rapid fire) as long as I keep the feature disabled?

A: Yes – as long as the feature is not enabled, then the controller can be used for tournament play.
